MA in Comparative Studies
The Masters in Comparative Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon is concerned with offering advanced studies in the area of Comparative Studies, stimulating research on the relations between different texts, art forms, media, cultural contexts and modes of knowledge. The Program in Comparative Studies (PEC) aims to stimulate and innovate the study of the Humanities through the surpassing of borders between both subjects and countries and involve students in the practice of discussion and problem solving, critical participation, rigorous and autonomous thought when facing diversity. Created in 1991 under the name of Masters in Comparative Literature, it accounts today for more than 50 successfully defended theses and works in close contact with the research developed in the Center for Comparative Studies of the School. Central place must be given to the promotion of international contacts, both by incentivizing and supporting students to take part in the Erasmus program and in workshops of European university networks as well as promoting research in both European and North American universities, as well as inviting foreign specialists for conferences or to teach curricular units in the course. For this end, an exchange protocol was established in 1994 between the Center for Comparative Studies and the University of Indiana at Bloomington (U.S.A.).
