VISUAL CULTURE, MIGRATION, GLOBALIZATION AND DECOLONIZATION
P.I.: Mónica de Miranda
Description and objectives
This project aims to carry out research on modern and contemporary art, photography and film from Africa and the African diasporas, with a particular emphasis on Portuguese-speaking African countries. It considers other transnational contexts, in the light of the historical and contemporary dislocations of theories and practices, of subjects and commodities, of images, sounds and texts across the Black Atlantic (Gilroy), namely Brazil, as well as internationalist alliances during the Cold War. It examines the ways in which artistic practice and visual culture have been critically reflecting on the history of the European colonial empires, post-colonial migrations and diasporas, and globalization, thereby contributing to an epistemic decolonization.
