Title of the project: Singing fado in contemporary Lisbon: exhibited heritage, concealed voices, new epistemologies
Scholarship reference: UID/ELT/00509/2013 [THELEME – RG-509-1999]
Start and end date: June, 2017 – May, 2018
Description
The research project studies fado practices in contemporary Lisbon. It can be divided in two main lines of inquiry: one focuses on fado as “intangible cultural heritage”, analysing the current “heritagisation” process undertaken by the Museu do Fado in the scope of UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (exhibition, mediation and remediation, museification), as well as emerging alternative forms of “safeguarding” fado heritage; the other approaches fado in a comparative perspective and proposes to elaborate a new take on modern, urban songs as intermedial performative practices, sharing common histories, imaginations and poetics on a global scale.
