The volume includes stories by Emilia Pardo Bazán, Miguel de Unamuno, Baldomero Lillo, Rubén Darío, Pío Baroja, Leopoldo Lugones, Horacio Quiroga, Ramón Gómez de la Serna, Roberto Arlt, Alejo Carpentier, Adolfo Bioy Casares, Augusto Roa Bastos, José Donoso, Julio Ramón Ribeyro, Ana María Moix, Enrique Serna and Luis Recuenco. Translations by Cristina Almeida Ribeiro, Ângela Fernandes, Miguel Filipe Mochila, Maria Graciete Silva, Tiago Sequeira, Raquel Baltazar, Isabel Dâmaso Santos and Fátima Freitas Morna.
