Seminar on Comics and Political Thought (Session III) – Comparatistas – english version

Seminar on Comics and Political Thought (Session III)

Session III: Super-Heroes – Ethics and Utopia
Date: January, 28th, 2017
Venue: Bedeteca de Lisboa – Biblioteca dos Olivais

Through comics from portuguese (mostly) and non-portuguese creators, the Seminar Comics and Political Thought aims to debate relevant socio-political issues and concepts. Body, Gender, Cybernetics and Transhumanism, City and Crowd, Utopia and Dystopia, and Totalitarianism will be discussed, bringing into dialogue academics, artists, comics fans and the general audience.

Comics has been a powerful way of reaching such issues, sometimes from an avant-garde, experimentalist and independent point of view, playing with the potentialities and limitations of the medium itself.

With this Seminar, a joint cooperation of research units from FCSH/UNL, UAc and FLUL, we try to highlight comics as a subject of academic research.
